Conversation with Picasso
This Picasso watercolor sculpture honors the influence of Pablo Picasso through layered portraiture and dimensional construction. The portrait emerges from vintage book pages mounted on a wooden milk carton, creating both painting and sculptural object.
I created this Picasso watercolor sculpture for a prestigious exhibition at the Portland Museum of Art in Maine, where I was selected among thousands of artists. Admiration for Picasso guided the process, leading me to work directly on physical book pages attached to the wooden structure.

The piece remained outdoors during a harsh Maine winter, allowing weather and time to shape the surface naturally. Subtle wear, softened edges, and tonal shifts developed organically. These elements now form part of the finished work and give the sculpture its aged character.
Transparent watercolor allows the printed words beneath the paint to remain visible. Gesture lines and loose washes define the portrait while open areas invite interpretation. The composition intentionally leaves portions unfinished so the viewer can complete the narrative.
This Picasso watercolor sculpture has remained in the studio for nearly a decade. The dimensional format, layered text, and weathered surface create a one of a kind original that bridges portrait, collage, and object. The work stands as both tribute and personal exploration inspired by Picasso’s lasting influence.
