From a distance, someone like that can be entirely fictional — assembled from what you want to see, polished by the fact that you never got close enough to know otherwise. Then something shifts. You do get close. And the version you had built dissolves, replaced by something better and more complicated: a real person, unaware they're being noticed, just existing. The wanting doesn't go away. It just becomes something quieter and more honest — less about the idea of them, and more about actually wanting to know who they are.
