As an artist, I consider Marilyn Monroe to be one of the most iconic figures of the 20th century. With her blonde bombshell persona, she became an emblem of the era's sexual revolution and a popular sex symbol of the 1950s and 1960s. In this watercolor painting, I sought to capture her timeless beauty and sensuality in a fresh and contemporary way. Instead of using traditional line work, I allowed the paint to take center stage, using color and brushstroke to create a portrait that is as vivid and striking as the woman herself.
This piece comes matted and framed in a simple black frame with a white mat, making it easy to display in any room of your home or office. The actual size of the watercolor painting is 11 x 14, but the frame is 16 x 20. I always aim to leave parts of my canvas "unfinished" to allow the viewer to use their imagination and build their own interpretation of the piece. This series is particularly special to me as I love capturing gesture lines on paper and bringing them to life with splashes of watercolor.
