Almost Monument
He was not quite still and not quite moving, caught in that threshold between effort and arrival where the body takes on a kind of permanence. Something in the angle of the chin, the pull of the arm across the chest, suggested that whatever he had been reaching toward had finally drawn close enough to feel. Almost Monument is about the moment a person becomes something more than themselves without trying to, when presence alone is enough to make the air around them hold its breath.
