These pieces began with a simple question about what happens when you remove everything except the silhouette. The dark figure against a field of color. Birds, flowers, light, all of it pressing in from the edges while the body holds its ground.
There is something very still at the center of these paintings. I keep making them because I have not figured out exactly what that stillness is yet.
