The figure has always been my starting point. Not as an object, but as a way into something harder to name, vulnerability, presence, the quiet confidence of a body at rest or in motion. These paintings come from life drawing, from memory, from the kind of looking that takes time.
I have always believed that the nude figure is one of the most honest subjects in art. There is nothing to hide behind. What you see is what the moment gave me, and what I was able to hold onto long enough to put down.
