Some paintings need room to breathe. These are the ones where I stepped back and let the white of the paper do most of the work. A figure emerging from almost nothing. Color used sparingly, deliberately, as punctuation rather than statement.
I think of these as the quietest conversations I have had with a subject. Everything unnecessary is gone.
